About Bazelet HaGolan Winery

Bazelet HaGolan is a distinctive kosher boutique winery in Moshav Kidmat Zvi on the Golan Heights, near Katzrin. It takes its name from the ancient Hebrew word for basalt, the dark volcanic rock that defines the Golan landscape and lends its mineral character to the region’s soils. Founded in 2001, it was among the early pioneers to recognise the extraordinary winemaking potential of the Golan plateau, where cool mountain air, abundant rainfall and basalt-enriched soils create conditions unlike anywhere else in Israel. The founders set out to produce wines that authentically express Golan terroir, pairing traditional values with modern techniques, and as a fully certified kosher winery it has shown that kosher production can reach the highest levels of quality, building a loyal following over more than two decades.

The Wines

The vineyards grow on basalt-rich soils at elevations from 800 to 1,100 metres, where significant diurnal variation, warm sunny days followed by cool nights, ripens the grapes while preserving natural acidity and aromatic intensity, giving wines with a freshness that distinguishes Golan terroir from warmer Israeli regions. Bazelet HaGolan focuses on international varieties that thrive here: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The flagship red blends show the region’s full potential, with structured tannins, dark fruit and distinctive mineral notes from the basalt, while varietal wines at various price points keep quality Golan wine accessible, and the winery consistently earns recognition at national and international competitions.

Visiting the Winery

A visit combines wine tasting with Golan Heights exploration, with the winery well placed near Katzrin as a starting point for the region’s wine trail. Guests can taste through a curated selection in a welcoming tasting room, where knowledgeable staff explain each wine and the story of Golan viticulture, and the winery accommodates individual visitors, couples and organised groups at different levels of wine knowledge.
