About Golan Heights Winery

Golan Heights Winery was founded in 1983 by a cooperative of eight kibbutzim and moshavim, making it the first winery established on the Golan Heights. Since its founding, Golan Heights Winery has played a pioneering role in shaping the Israeli wine industry and establishing the Golan as one of the premier wine regions in the country. The winery cultivates 6,300 dunams of vineyards across 456 individual plots, growing 19 different grape varieties. Consequently, Golan Heights Winery commands an exceptional depth of terroir knowledge across the entire Golan plateau. Head winemaker Victor Schoenfeld leads the winemaking team with decades of experience and a commitment to quality.

Wines and Vineyards of Golan Heights Winery

Golan Heights Winery produces four main series of wines: Mount Hermon, Golan, Gamla, and Jordan. Each series represents a distinct quality level and style, from the accessible Mount Hermon range to the prestigious Jordan wines at the top of the portfolio. The winery monitors each of its 456 plots individually, tracking soil, climate, and vine performance to maximize quality from every parcel. Furthermore, Golan Heights Winery matures wines from different plots separately in stainless steel tanks before blending, ensuring precision and consistency in the final wines. Additionally, single vineyard wines are produced only in exceptional vintages when individual plots achieve outstanding quality. As a result, the wines of Golan Heights Winery are recognized for their reliability, quality, and accurate expression of Golan Heights terroir. The 19 varieties cultivated across the estate reflect the diversity and ambition of the winemaking program.

Visiting Golan Heights Winery

Golan Heights Winery welcomes visitors at its facilities on the Golan plateau. The winery offers a comprehensive tasting experience that allows guests to explore the full range of series from Mount Hermon to Jordan. Moreover, the story of the founding by eight cooperative communities in 1983 gives visitors a window into the pioneering spirit of Israeli winemaking. The Golan Heights region itself offers dramatic scenery, ancient volcanic landscapes, and a distinctive cool-climate character that visitors can taste in every glass. Therefore, a visit to Golan Heights Winery is both a discovery of outstanding Israeli wine and an encounter with the history of one of the most important wine regions in Israel. The winery stands as a landmark achievement in Israeli viticulture and a must-visit destination for any serious wine lover.

Absolutely stunning views and exceptional wines. The Yarden Cabernet is world-class — rich, structured and nothing like I expected from Israel. The tasting room team were knowledgeable and passionate. A must-visit.

We made a special trip from Tel Aviv just for this and it was worth every minute. Bring a picnic — the grounds are beautiful and they encourage you to sit and enjoy.
