Business Description

The Golan Heights Winery, established in 1983 by eight kibbutzim and moshavim, holds the distinction of being the first winery in the Golan Heights. Since its inception, the winery has continually deepened its roots and made a significant impact on the world of Israeli wine. Its establishment transformed the local wine landscape and reshaped the perception of quality among Israeli consumers.

The winery proudly offers four series, each with a wide variety of grape varieties and styles: Mount Hermon, Golan, Gamla, and Jordan.

Embracing the philosophy that the Golan Heights region is a land of wine, the winery constantly expands its knowledge and explores the possibilities of producing diverse types and styles of wine. Each wine crafted by the winery is a piece of a complex puzzle, showcasing the exceptional versatility of the region—a rarity in the world of wine. With every discovery and advancement, the winery’s belief in the immense potential of the Golan Heights as a prime wine-growing area only strengthens.

According to Victor Schoenfeld, the winery’s head winemaker, “Wine has a sense of place. You can feel the region it came from in the taste, smell, and color. In wine, the culture of the place, the language, the smells, and the people are treasured.”

The winery’s vision is centered around leading the culture of quality wine in Israel, not as a mere slogan, but as the guiding intention and way of life for everyone involved in the winery. This commitment encompasses studying the unique terroir, crafting exceptional wines, and engaging with quality wine consumers and professionals through meaningful activities and communication.

The wine produced by the Golan Heights Winery is an expression of multiple factors. It seeks to capture the essence of the Golan Heights—the distinctive volcanic soil, the winter snowstorms, the long hot summer days and cold nights, the resilient vineyard workers enduring the winds and sun, and the talented team of winemakers, each contributing their experience, skills, and creativity.

The winery’s vineyards cover approximately 6,300 dunams of land, cultivating 19 different grape varieties across 456 plots and subplots. Each plot is carefully mapped, cataloged, and continuously monitored for various parameters such as soil conductivity, growth patterns, and vine water conditions. The knowledge accumulated over the years provides valuable insights into the characteristics, abilities, development, and health of each vine, serving as an essential tool for decision-making throughout the year and during the harvest.

To preserve their individual identities and uniqueness, the grapes from different plots are matured separately and collected in stainless steel tanks until the final blending process. With such a vast selection of small plots, the winemaker can choose the most suitable ones for each specific wine, ensuring the utmost quality and expression.

The decision to bottle wines from a single vineyard is made only after many years of monitoring and understanding the unique qualities and potential of each specific vineyard. Single vineyard wines are produced exclusively in vintages where the raw material is exceptional and the vineyard’s terroir character is distinctly reflected in the resulting wine.
