About Ortal Winery

Ortal Winery is a boutique winery in the northern Golan Heights, by Kibbutz Ortal, which was established in 1978 among the dramatic volcanic peaks of Mount Avital and Mount Bental. The elevated terrain gives excellent conditions for vines, cool temperatures, volcanic basalt soils and a wide day-to-night temperature swing, so Ortal draws on some of the most distinctive terroir in Israel, in a region widely recognised as one of the country’s premier wine areas.

The Wines

The vineyards around Ortal thrive in the cool northern Golan climate, giving grapes with vibrant acidity and concentrated flavour, while the volcanic basalt soils lend a distinctive mineral character. The plateau’s altitude ensures the cool nights that build aromatic complexity, and the winery makes a range of wines that reflect this striking environment. On its small scale, with dedicated winemaking, the wines come out with genuine distinction.

Visiting the Winery

A visit combines tasting with the natural beauty of the northern Golan, with panoramic views of the volcanic peaks and open plateau. Guests can sample the wines and enjoy the peaceful kibbutz setting, and the wider region offers plenty of natural and historical attractions for anyone extending their trip, a memorable stop for wine lovers and nature lovers alike.

Information last updated: July 26, 2026. Please confirm hours and details directly with the winery before visiting.
