Rota Winery is a boutique winery situated in the desert, forming part of an ecological farm located in the Halutza sands on the banks of Nahal Revivim in the Negev plateau. The farm was established in the late summer of 2004 by Erez Rota, who is an artist, farmer, and winemaker. This endeavor was the realization of Erez’s long-standing dream to establish an agricultural farm that harmonizes with his love for the desert.

Originally founded in 1999 in a small studio in Tel Aviv, the winery relocated to the Negev land in 2004. The current farm landscape incorporates remnants of an ancient agricultural farm from the Nabatean era. The vineyards were carefully planted amidst the ancient terraces at an elevation of approximately 300 meters. The soil composition primarily consists of loess, sand, and pebbles, which facilitate effective water drainage due to the water washing the surface of the ground. The desert climate, characterized by cold and dry winters, hot and dry summers, a constant breeze, and cool nights, provides an ideal foundation for grape cultivation.

At Rota Winery, the unique combination of desert terroir and Erez Rota’s expertise as an artist, farmer, and winemaker converge to produce exceptional wines. The winery embraces the inherent challenges and rewards of winemaking in such an extraordinary environment, crafting wines that capture the essence of the desert’s character and the distinctive qualities of the Negev region.
