About Rota Winery

Rota Winery is a boutique desert winery situated in the Halutza sands on the banks of Nahal Revivim in the Negev plateau. The winery forms part of an ecological farm established in late 2004 by Erez Rota, an artist, farmer, and winemaker. His decision to create this farm fulfilled a long-held dream: to build an agricultural space that harmonizes fully with the desert landscape.

Erez Rota originally founded a small winery studio in Tel Aviv in 1999. However, he relocated the entire project to the Negev in 2004. The current farm incorporates remnants of an ancient Nabatean agricultural settlement. Therefore, the vineyards sit among centuries-old terraces, connecting modern winemaking to an ancient tradition of desert cultivation.

Wines and Desert Terroir

The vineyards grow at approximately 300 meters above sea level. The soil consists of loess, sand, and pebbles, which provide excellent drainage. The desert climate delivers cold, dry winters and hot, dry summers. Moreover, constant breezes and cool nights slow grape ripening and build complexity in the fruit.

These challenging desert conditions produce grapes of distinctive character. Erez Rota works the land with an artistic eye and remarkable patience.
