About Scoria Winery

Scoria Winery is a boutique winery located in the village of Knaf in the Golan Heights. The winery was founded in 2008 as a personal passion project, initially producing small quantities of wine for family and friends. Over the following years, it grew steadily into a professional operation. Today, Scoria Winery produces approximately 18,000 bottles annually, offering a range of red, white, and rose wines sourced from its own estate vineyards.

The name Scoria refers to the volcanic basalt rock that characterizes the Golan Heights landscape. This geological identity is central to the winery’s story. Furthermore, the volcanic soil of the Golan contributes mineral depth and structural complexity to all the wines produced here. Therefore, the name is not merely symbolic — it reflects the genuine connection between the wine and the land from which it comes.

Wines and Vineyards

Winemaker Ofer Turgeman leads production at Scoria Winery. He studied viticulture at Tel Hai College in 2008 and later graduated from Beit Berel College with a specialization in agriculture. Moreover, Ofer is one of the founding members of the village of Knaf, giving him a uniquely personal connection to the land and the community. He works closely with partners Yulia and Evgeni in the cellar, maintaining constant collaboration to ensure every vintage reaches its full potential.

The first vineyard at Scoria was planted in 2007. Since then, the winery has expanded its vineyard holdings carefully, matching grape varieties to the specific conditions of the Golan soil and climate. As a result, each wine genuinely expresses the terroir of this volcanic plateau. In addition, the team conducts ongoing research to continually improve the quality of every bottle produced.

Visiting Scoria Winery

A visit to Scoria Winery begins with the dramatic scenery of the Golan Heights and the village of Knaf. Guests can tour the vineyards, explore the production facility, and taste wines guided by Ofer, who brings the same enthusiasm and curiosity to tasting as he does to winemaking. Consequently, every visit is an educational and genuinely enjoyable experience.

Scoria Winery represents the spirit of the Golan Heights: volcanic, passionate, and full of character. For wine lovers looking to discover the authentic face of Israeli boutique winemaking in a stunning natural setting, it is an unmissable destination.
