Business Description

About Segal Winery

Segal holds a unique place in the story of Israeli wine as one of the country’s oldest continuously operating kosher wineries, with a heritage reaching back to 1952. Founded in the early years of the state, it has taken part in every stage of the industry’s evolution, from its modest beginnings with sacramental and table wines to its present role as a producer of internationally recognised varietals. That long history gives Segal a depth of institutional knowledge and vineyard experience few Israeli wineries can match, and as a fully certified kosher producer it has helped show that kosher wine can compete at the highest levels of the global market.

The Wines

Segal draws its grapes from the Upper Galilee and Golan Heights, two of Israel’s premier cool-climate regions. The Galilee sites benefit from Mediterranean breezes and varied elevations, while the Golan vineyards at 800 to 1,100 metres see pronounced day-to-night temperature swings that concentrate flavour and hold acidity. The portfolio runs from approachable everyday wines to premium reserves, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc among the reds and Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc among the whites. The Special Reserve tier represents the winery’s most ambitious work, with extended barrel ageing and careful selection from the finest parcels of each vintage.

Visiting the Winery

Segal’s tasting facilities at Tefen, in the Upper Galilee, offer a welcoming place to sample the full range, guided by staff who can trace the winery’s story alongside that of Israeli wine itself. The location sits within easy reach of Acre, Haifa and the scenic Western Galilee, so a visit folds naturally into a wider exploration of northern Israel.

Information last updated: July 26, 2026. Please confirm hours and details directly with the winery before visiting.
