Business Description

Achziv Winery takes its name from the ancient Phoenician port city of Achziv on Israel’s northern Mediterranean coast — a site whose archaeological layers reveal over three thousand years of continuous habitation, trade, and agricultural activity, including winemaking. Located in the Kiryat Motzkin area on the coastal plain north of Haifa, the winery brings a distinctive coastal character to its wines, shaped by the moderate Mediterranean climate that tempers the sometimes harsh inland summer heat. The coastal plain of northern Israel, while not a traditional designated wine region in the same way as the Galilee highlands or Judean Hills, has a long viticultural history.

The proximity to the sea ensures relatively stable temperatures, adequate moisture, and soils that, while lighter and more sandy than the rocky mountain terroir further inland, can yield expressive and approachable wines. Achziv Winery is a small boutique producer in the Israeli tradition of family-run urban and peri-urban operations — wineries that have sprung up across the country over the past three decades as the Israeli wine renaissance gathered momentum. The winery produces wines for a local and regional market, likely focusing on red varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which perform well across much of Israel’s varied terrain, alongside lighter styles suited to the coastal climate.

The Israeli wine industry has seen remarkable growth since the 1980s, when pioneering winemakers introduced modern viticultural and winemaking techniques and began taking the craft seriously as a fine-wine endeavour. Small producers like Achziv Winery are part of this broader story — local artisans committed to expressing the character of their specific location in each bottle.
