Business Description

About Tanya Winery

Tanya Winery was founded in 2001 by Yoram Cohen in Ofra, in the Binyamin region north of Jerusalem. It is named after his daughter Tanya, a name that also carries meaning from a Talmudic teaching of Rabbi Ishmael, and the wine series are named for each of his children, so every bottle is in a sense a family tribute. Ofra sits at around 900 metres in the ancient territory of the tribe of Benjamin; the height and clear mountain air set it apart from the warmer lowlands, letting the grapes ripen in balance while altitude keeps the fruit fresh.

The Wines

The central highlands have a winemaking history stretching back more than 3,000 years, attested by ancient rock carvings in the area, and Tanya continues it with modern knowledge and real regard for the land. Yoram Cohen works closely across every stage, from vineyard to cellar, and the family-centred approach carries through into the wines, with each series telling its own personal story.

Visiting the Winery

Tanya welcomes visitors to the hilltop village of Ofra for tastings and a look at the region’s ancient wine heritage, with sweeping views from the plateau. Yoram’s feel for wine, family and the land of Benjamin makes each tasting a personal, engaging one.
