About Margalit Winery

Margalit Winery is a small, family-owned winery that was established in 1989. Initially located in Kfar-Bilo near Rehovot, the winery later moved to Pardes near Hadera in 1994. Since 2013, it has found its home in the Binyamina settlement on the Carmel coast.

The winery’s first commercial release was the cabernet sauvignon vintage of 1989, following years of experimental production and sharing the wines with friends free of charge. Over time, public interest in the small winery grew, primarily for two reasons. Firstly, it was one of the first small commercial wineries to emerge in the Israeli wine industry, which was predominantly dominated by larger, well-established wineries. Secondly, it gained recognition for the quality and uniqueness of its wines.

When the winery was initially established, it had to source grapes from underground channels, as all the grapes in Israel were already committed to long-term contracts with larger wineries. However, it became apparent that to maintain the desired level of quality, it was necessary to own vineyards and cultivate the grapes themselves.

Ten years later, the winery had gained a place in the industry and the first two vineyards were planted in Galilee and Benjamin. In 2011, a third vineyard was established in Zichron Yaakov.

The annual production has grown from 900 bottles in the first year to the current volume of approximately 30,000 bottles per year.

Since the first vintage, a significant portion of each new vintage’s wine has been sold directly to customers at the winery during three weekends of tastings held in the spring months of March and April, prior to the Passover holiday. The remaining wine is distributed to stores and restaurants within Israel, with a small portion earmarked for export.

Margalit Winery continues to thrive as a testament to its commitment to producing high-quality wines and maintaining a loyal customer base.

Margalit is boutique at its finest. Yaacov Margalit poured the wines himself and explained his philosophy of minimal intervention. The Enigma is breathtaking.

A true winemaker’s winery. Small, personal and completely focused on the craft. The tasting is intimate — max 8 people — and absolutely worth the premium.
