Business Description

Kabir Winery is one of the most fully developed boutique wineries in the Judea and Samaria wine region, located in Elon Moreh — a Jewish community in the Samarian hills near the ancient city of Shechem (Nablus). The winery’s name, Kabir (קביר), means mighty or powerful in Hebrew — a word that also appears in the biblical and rabbinic literature in connection with the great figures of Israelite history and with the divine attributes. The address Derech HaYayin 1 — Wine Road 1 — speaks to the winery’s ambition and its positioning as a destination on the emerging wine tourism route of the Samarian hills.

Elon Moreh holds a central place in the biblical narrative: it was here at the great terebinth tree of Moreh that the patriarch Abraham first entered Canaan and received the divine promise of the land to his descendants. The Talmudic tradition also associates Elon Moreh with Shechem, the first city mentioned in connection with Abraham’s journey, making it one of the most symbolically loaded addresses in the entire Jewish geographic imagination. The Samarian hills surrounding Elon Moreh rise to elevations of 800 to 900 metres above sea level, creating growing conditions that are significantly cooler than the Jordan Valley below or the coastal plain to the west.

The chalky limestone soils of these ancient hills, long recognised by Israelite and later cultures as prime agricultural terrain, provide excellent drainage and mineral complexity well suited to viticulture. Evidence of ancient wine production throughout the Samarian highlands — in the form of ancient wine presses, storage cisterns, and vineyard terraces — demonstrates that this was a major wine-producing region in the biblical and Second Temple periods, a heritage that modern producers like Kabir are consciously reclaiming. Kabir Winery produces kosher wines and operates a visitor centre welcoming tourists to the Samarian wine country.

Beyond wine tasting and tours, the winery offers additional experiences including accommodation and ATV tours through the dramatic landscape of the Samarian hills — making it a genuine agritourism destination rather than merely a tasting room. The kid-friendly orientation of the winery makes it accessible to family visitors, helping to build wine appreciation across generations and to connect Israeli families to the wine-growing heritage of Judea and Samaria.
