Business Description

About Clos de Gat Winery

Clos de Gat sits in the foothills of the Judean Mountains, overlooking the Ayalon Valley, a landscape rich in biblical history. On the property is an ancient wine press, a gat in Hebrew, dating from more than a thousand years before the Roman era, and it is that link to the land’s ancient winemaking that gave the winery both its name and its outlook. The name pairs the French clos, an enclosed estate, with the Hebrew gat, capturing a winery that honours old tradition while working as a modern estate.

The Wines

Clos de Gat is a true estate: every grape is grown on the land around the ancient press. The Judean Mountains give limestone soils, a Mediterranean climate and real elevation, and the wines carry a strong sense of that place. The team works with precision in vineyard and cellar, making both reds and whites, with the reds especially well matched to the Judean Hills, and the cool Ayalon foothills lending freshness and balance.

Visiting the Winery

A visit combines tasting with history: guests can see the ancient gat in person and hear the valley’s millennia-long wine story, all set among the Judean hills, one of the most historically resonant winery visits in Israel.
