About Domaine Herzberg

Domaine Herzberg is a family-owned organic boutique winery established in 2007 on Moshav Sitriya in the Judean foothills, southwest of Jerusalem. Founded by Max Herzberg, whose family emigrated from France in 1968 and brought with them a deep appreciation for traditional Old World winemaking, the domaine stands as a bridge between French viticulture traditions and the unique terroir of the Judean lowlands. Max studied winemaking and viticulture before returning to the family land to realise his dream of producing honest, expressive wines from organic grapes.

Wines and Vineyards of Domaine Herzberg

The vineyards at Moshav Sitriya benefit from the classic Mediterranean climate of the Judean foothills — warm, dry summers moderated by sea breezes from the Mediterranean coast, and mild winters that allow the vines sufficient dormancy. Domaine Herzberg farms all its vineyards organically, eschewing synthetic pesticides and herbicides in favour of sustainable practices that respect the soil and produce healthier fruit. The terroir here is characterised by deep red soils mixed with limestone and chalk, typical of the Shimshon and Judean foothills transition zone.

The winery produces a small, carefully curated portfolio of wines led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot-based blends, alongside a Chardonnay that shows the cooling influence of the Mediterranean. Winemaking follows traditional French methods: careful sorting, gentle extraction, and ageing in French oak barrels. The wines are produced in limited quantities, making them sought-after by collectors and lovers of artisan Israeli wine. Non-kosher production allows Max full flexibility in the cellar, with the wines reflecting his belief that great wine is grown, not made.
