Business Description

Drimia Winery is a boutique kosher-mehadrin wine estate in the ancient settlement of Sussya in the southern Judean Hills, at 882 metres above sea level. Founded by Elad and Nava Movshovitz — third-generation agricultural families committed to realising the biblical vision of making the land of Israel fruitful — the winery was established in 2007 and renamed Drimia in 2016. The name refers to the drimia (sea squill) plant, a large bulbous wildflower that blooms on the slopes of Sussya each autumn, its white flower spikes emerging dramatically from bare, rocky soil.

Sussya itself is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Israel: ruins of an ancient Jewish village continuously inhabited from the Talmudic era through the Byzantine and early Islamic periods, with carved synagogue foundations, wine presses cut into bedrock, and dwelling caves telling fifteen centuries of Jewish life. Making wine here is thus a profound act of cultural continuity — wine has been produced in these hills since antiquity. Located south of Hebron, between the Judean Mountains and the beginning of the Negev desert, Drimia benefits from cold winters, very dry ripening periods, and the remarkable diurnal temperature range of the southern Judean highlands — combined with ancient chalk and limestone soils — to produce wines of genuine complexity.

The winery produces 12,000 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, including a distinctive blend called Sfar (‘the edge of the desert’). All wines carry full kosher mehadrin certification. The visitor shop offers wine tastings alongside locally produced honey, chocolate, olive oil, and cheese.

Advanced booking required. Contact Elad (055-8824369) or Nava (054-2271153).
