About Tzora Winery

Tzora is one of Israel’s most respected estate wineries, based at Kibbutz Tzora in the Judean Hills, west of Jerusalem. It was shaped by Ronnie James, who took charge of the kibbutz vineyards more than fifty years ago and, out of a deep connection to the land, began making wine of his own. He studied how the vines behaved, tracked the weather and trusted his instincts, working with the patience of a farmer and the vision of an artist. He became widely recognised as Israel’s pioneer of terroir-driven winemaking, influencing a generation of winemakers, and in 2003 received the Eshkol HaZahav, the Golden Bunch Award, for his contribution to Israeli wine.

The Wines

Tzora’s vineyards cover roughly 450 dunams of limestone-rich Terra Rossa, and the altitude of the Judean Hills brings cool nights that hold the grapes’ natural acidity, giving the wines a distinctive freshness and mineral character. The estate makes a focused range of reds and whites built on terroir rather than volume, with many wines aged carefully to gain complexity while keeping the site’s bright, fresh signature.

Visiting the Winery

Ronnie James died in April 2008, but his legacy lives on in the winery’s devotion to honest, site-driven wine, and Tzora remains one of the Judean Hills’ most admired estate producers. Visits are available by appointment at Kibbutz Tzora, a short drive from Jerusalem.

Tzora makes wines that feel truly Israeli - fresh, bright and mineral. The Shoresh white is one of the best white wines in the country. Lovely intimate tasting space.

Superb small-production winery in the Judean Hills. The vineyards are stunning and the wines are genuinely world-class. The Misty Hills blend is incredible.
