About Tzora Winery

Tzora Winery is one of Israel’s most respected estate wineries. It is located at Kibbutz Tzora in the Judean Hills, west of Jerusalem. The winery was shaped by Ronnie James, who took charge of the kibbutz vineyards over fifty years ago. His deep connection to the land led him to begin making wine of his own. James studied the behaviour of the vines with care, analysed weather conditions, and followed his own instincts.

James approached winemaking with the patience of a farmer and the vision of an artist. As a result, he became widely recognised as Israel’s pioneer of terroir-driven winemaking. His influence shaped a generation of Israeli winemakers. In 2003, he received the Eshkol HaZahav — the Golden Bunch Award — for his outstanding contribution to Israel’s wine culture.

Wines and Vineyards

The vineyards at Tzora Winery cover approximately 450 dunams of Terra Rossa soil. This limestone-rich terrain gives the wines freshness and mineral character. Furthermore, the altitude of the Judean Hills brings cool nights that preserve natural acidity in the grapes. The result is a distinctive freshness that defines Tzora Winery’s style.

Tzora produces a focused range of reds and whites built on terroir expression rather than volume. The wines are not made for mass production. Instead, they reflect the specific character of the Kibbutz Tzora estate. In addition, many wines are aged carefully to develop complexity while preserving the site’s natural freshness.

Visiting Tzora Winery

Ronnie James passed away in April 2008. However, his legacy continues in the winery’s commitment to honest, site-driven wine. Today, Tzora Winery remains one of the Judean Hills’ most admired estate producers. The winery carries forward the same focus on quality and place that James established. Visits are available by appointment at Kibbutz Tzora, a short drive from Jerusalem.

Tzora makes wines that feel truly Israeli — fresh, bright and mineral. The Shoresh white is one of the best white wines in the country. Lovely intimate tasting space.

Superb small-production winery in the Judean Hills. The vineyards are stunning and the wines are genuinely world-class. The Misty Hills blend is incredible.
