About Somek Winery

Somek Winery was established in 2002 by Barak and Hilla Dehan in the Zichron Ya’akov region. Barak comes from a winemaking family with five generations of roots in Zichron Ya’akov, one of Israel’s oldest wine-producing towns. This deep heritage gives him an intimate understanding of every vineyard plot in the area. Furthermore, his hands-on approach to viticulture ensures that only the finest grapes reach the winery each harvest.

Hilla brings a rigorous academic perspective to the partnership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In addition, she pursued a Master’s degree in oenology at the University of Adelaide in Australia, one of the world’s leading wine research institutions. Consequently, Somek Winery combines five generations of vineyard experience with cutting-edge winemaking science.

Wines and Vineyards

The winery produces wines exclusively from family-owned vineyards in the Zichron Ya’akov area. This estate approach ensures full control over fruit quality from bud break through harvest. Moreover, Barak employs manual techniques throughout the growing season, giving individual attention to each vine.
