Business Description

About Somek Winery

Somek Winery was established in 2002 by Barak and Hilla Dehan in Zichron Ya’akov, one of Israel’s oldest wine towns. Barak comes from a winemaking family with five generations of roots in the area, and knows its vineyard plots intimately. Hilla brings the science: a degree in agriculture from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a master’s in oenology from the University of Adelaide, one of the world’s leading wine-research institutions. Between them they pair five generations of vineyard knowledge with modern winemaking training.

The Wines

The wines are made entirely from the family’s own vineyards around Zichron Ya’akov, giving full control over the fruit from bud break to harvest. Barak works the vines largely by hand, while Hilla’s oenological training guides the cellar. Clay soils, a Mediterranean climate and sea breezes off the nearby Carmel coast lend the wines a distinctive freshness and structure.

Visiting the Winery

Somek welcomes guests for tastings in the historic setting of Zichron Ya’akov. The atmosphere is genuinely that of a family winery, and a visit gives a clear sense of a producer built on both inherited knowledge and formal expertise.

Information last updated: July 26, 2026. Please confirm hours and details directly with the winery before visiting.
