Business Description

In 1882, Michael and Malka Hamiltsky arrived in Zichron Ya’akov, Israel, after leaving Lithuania in search of a new beginning. Michael was chosen by Baron Rothschild to plant vineyards in the area, marking the start of a deep bond between the family and the land. Settling in Shefia, surrounded by sprawling vineyards, they dedicated themselves to cultivating the land and nurturing their vineyards.

In 1925, the Hamiltsky family had the privilege of hosting the renowned poet Haim Nachman Bialik. Grateful for their warm hospitality, Bialik bestowed upon them the name “Tashbi,” signifying residents of Shafia in the Land of Israel. This name became synonymous with the family and their winemaking endeavors.

In 1984, the Israeli wine industry faced a severe crisis, with plummeting grape prices and a lack of demand from wineries. This prompted a pivotal decision for the family: to withdraw from the “Carmel Mizrahi” cooperative and establish their own small winery. It seemed natural to make wine from their own grapes, which primarily consisted of the muscat variety. Initially named “Baron Wineries” after Baron Rothschild, the winery later adopted the name “Tashbi Wineries” to honor the family’s legacy.

Today, the winery thrives under the collective efforts of all family members. Neely, my wife, manages the winery shop and visitor center, ensuring guests experience the true essence of Tashbi. Golan Benny, our son, serves as the winemaker and vice president. Golan’s intimate connection with the winery from an early age has been instrumental in its growth and success. His journey led him to Cognac, France, where he mastered the art of distillation using the “allembic” method, crafting exceptional brandies aged in oak barrels. Our brandies have earned accolades and recognition, including the prestigious title of the best brandy in the world at the “IWSC” competition in London. Oshera, our daughter, has traveled the globe, establishing the winery’s presence in international markets. She spearheaded the opening of our coffee and wine shop in Zichron Ya’akov center, as well as the “Fine Food by OshraTishbi” line of gourmet products. My eldest son, Michael, a skilled editor, is also deeply involved in managing and expanding our family vineyards. Together, our family’s collective passion and unwavering dedication create a harmonious balance between professionalism and the warmth of a family-driven enterprise.

In 2010, Tashbi Wineries began importing the renowned VALRHONA premium chocolate brand from France, becoming a hub for chocolate and baking enthusiasts. We built a bakery on-site, featuring a LE PANYOL oven imported from France. Additionally, we import other esteemed brands such as CRUZILLES and SOSA, offering a wide range of gourmet products for professional baking.

Since those humble beginnings, Tashbi Wineries has experienced remarkable growth and development, currently producing approximately one million bottles per year. Our winery encompasses a restaurant and the BBQ GARAGE complex, providing a unique culinary experience. Visitors can indulge in wine and chocolate tastings at our welcoming visitor center.

At Tashbi Wineries, our journey is rooted in passion, perseverance, and a deep connection to the land. We invite you to join us in celebrating the fruits of our labor, as we continue to craft exceptional wines, exquisite brandies, and gourmet products that embody the spirit of Tashbi.
